To facilitate this training and test preparation, programs can choose from these options:
Training at MedStar SiTEL’s DC or Baltimore Sim Centers, MWHC Sim Center, MGUH Sim Center:
Programs can enroll trainees in a 3 - 3.5 hour Central Line practice course offered at MedStar SiTEL
Instructors are arranged by MedStar SiTEL. The instructor to learner ratio is 1:2
MedStar SiTEL provides the course content/PowerPoint presentation (includes basic didactics about vascular anatomy and landmarks, ultrasound use, patient positioning, basic line techniques and reading post-op chest x-rays), suggested course set up and flow, Central Line insertion checklists, simulation models, Central Line kits and support personnel
Standardized patients may be available for anatomy teaching and ultrasound practice if given adequate advance notice and is subject to standardized patient availability.
Training at home hospital:
MedStar SiTEL may be able to bring simulation models to specific hospitals, along with support personnel, to facilitate with smaller training sessions at the discretion of MedStar SiTEL operations
The relevant curriculum files (PowerPoint presentation, checklists, etc.) used during the training at MedStar SiTEL will also be available to instructors teaching at their home institutions
Resources available through MedStar SiTEL for this training option may be more limited depending on scheduling and availability
Programs can elect to independently train their residents without the support of MedStar SiTEL, although it is strongly encouraged to use the standardized course content.
